I'm Tired
The title of this blog post just about sums up the past 16 hours for me. I got back to my room at about 9:30pm yesterday and then just complained about how exhausted I was until my roommate told me to just go to bed. Why was I so tired you might ask? Two words: Computer Science. I've basically been working on computer science (or in class) since about 7pm on Sunday with only a couple small breaks for food. When I decided to take on my second I don't think that I had any idea just how much work it would be. It wasn't until midway through last semester I really realized what I had signed up for. I have a love-hate relationship with computer science in a way that I do not have with anything else. When it is going even slightly well, I love the challenge, but when I hit a brick wall where I try to solve the same problem for three hours I just want to never touch a computer again. Luckily, I only have one or two of those moments for each project. Regardless, I'm almost more dedicated to doing well in my CMSC classes than I am to doing well to my math classes at this point. It was solely my decision to take on a second major and I feel like I'm letting myself down if I don't finish it at this point. Plus, none of my computer science classes are more than 25% women and this motivates me to show the world that a female can excel at not only one but two STEM fields.
Also, I think that being at TA for CMSC 201 was one of the best decisions that I made this semester. It has allowed me to connect with people in the Computer Science department that I would have never talked to otherwise and become more connected to the department as a whole. Spending time in ITE 240 is now one of my favorite things to do and I really want to start working in there more often. I cannot praise Dr. Gibson enough as a teacher, and being able to interact with her in a more informal setting is always one of the highlights of my week. Plus, all of the other TA's are incredible and so much fun to be around. Lab Prep meetings on Thursday always make my day just a little bit better and in a weird way I'm actually looking forward to grading on Friday because I'm excited to spend basically the whole day with the other TA's. And I have even mentioned how much I love helping the 201 babies. I've discovered that I really love to share my passions with others and being a TA gives me an outlet to do that.
Anyway, that's all for today. The rest of this week is not nearly as stressful as the past two days have been and so I'm excited for a bit of a break. Also, I think I'm going to a corn maze this weekend with my friends, so that should be exciting.
