Summer, Part 1

It's been a while. Not gonna lie, I forgot I had a blog for a while but never fear, I am back! Summer is flying by, I can't believe it's already the middle of July. I've got about 6 weeks of summer left, and I'm planning on enjoying every minute of it! I miss everyone at school a lot, but I love having nothing to worry about once I get home from work!

Work has been great so far! I just started week 8 and I haven't gotten bored yet, so that's a plus! So much about this year is better than last year! I'm in the same building as I was last year, so I'm familiar with the environment, but I'm in a smaller office and kind of hidden from both the door and the other people in my office, so I have my own little corner to work. It's basically an introvert's dream. My project is really interesting and hasn't been easy. I'm almost done it at this point, but it's been full of complicated details and little picky coding things that have made each step it's own challenge. I'm really enjoying being part of a bigger team this year as well, because I feel like I'm more involved with what we are trying to achieve and not just doing a project that will never get used.

I've been enjoying the rest of my summer as well! I've gotten to spend a ton of time with two of my best friends from home and was able to go to Rocky Gap for a couple days and catch up with some other people as well! I've done some great hiking and been able to just relax. Last weekend I got to go back up to school for the day for a 201 meeting and to hang out and play Frisbee with some friends from IV. It was one of my favorite days of the summer so far, which really I think underscores how much I am in a place in my life that I want to be and that I'm comfortable with. Last summer was rough for me and I struggled with loneliness and some other tough things emotionally. I think that I'm determined this summer to have a better summer this year. I'm bad at staying in contact with people, but luckily I've been able to chat with some of my favorite people at school at one point or another this summer and have plans to hang out with some more this weekend. I'm just taking it day by day and enjoying things as they come.

Oh, and I turn 20 next week. I'm trying to not think about it, but I also don't want to make a big deal about it because even though I won't be a teenager anymore, it's just another day to be the best person I can bee, teenager or not, and it's one day closer to junior year, which promises to be my hardest year yet, but I'm also the most excited I've been for a semester since I started college.

What happens before then? 3 more weeks at NIST, a mini-vacation with my family and then moving my little sister into college (yikes!). I'm planning on enjoying every minute of summer I have left!

Until next time.

-E.
