Summer, Part 2
I actually meant to write this post 3 weeks ago, but then I decided to wait until I had actually done something interesting, since all I did since my last blog post was work. I've been putting it off ever since, mostly because I'm not on my laptop as much. But anyway, a lot has happened since then, so here goes.
My last couple weeks of work were super busy because I was trying to finish up my project, work on my presentation and make sure that my code was documented well enough to be used after I left NIST. The last part especially I saved until the latest I could possibly do it and still get it done. I would say that it convinced my to comment my code while writing it, but that's probably not true.(oops...) I did end up getting most of what I wanted to get done completed, but with research there's always other ideas you end up having. I definitely could have done more, and refined my project, but I'm happy with what I got done. My presentation went really well also! All in all, it was a much better experience than last summer and I really enjoyed my time.
The week after I finished work, my family took a 3-day mini vacation to a cottage near Old Rag in Virginia. We hiked White Oak Canyon on the first day and while it was a really pretty hike with some nice falls, the first part was 2 hours all up hill and I was pretty dead by the time we got to the top. So yeah, that put a damper on my ability to enjoy the experience. It would be fun to go back though and hike it at a much slower pace so I can actually enjoy it. The cottage we stayed in was super cool and since it rained most of the day on Monday, we stayed in and played Catan (which was very intense because we are all pretty competitive) and tried to play spikeball (we weren't good). Then we went to a nearby creek/river and waded/swam around in an area that had a lot of little waterfalls. The water was super cold but I love playing in natural water so I had a really good time. I realized I need better water shoes though because I almost fell so many times. The next day, we drove into DC and toured the Capitol (second time this summer for me) and then went to the Library of Congress and the Botanical Gardens. I really loved the LoC because I forgot how pretty the main atrium area was. The Botanical Gardens were perfect because I just wandered around for 30 minutes or so and got so many cool pictures. Then we got to go to a Nationals game, which was super exciting and really fun because we were able to get seats much closer to the field than we usually do. Being closer to the action really makes games more interesting, even if the game itself wasn't the most exciting. But yeah, all in all the trip was a great time and I'm glad I finally got to spend some time with my family.
Last weekend, my parents and I went to Virginia Beach to move my sister into college. Which was kind of weird, because although I obviously have done the college move-in thing before, it's so different doing it for someone else. We did get to actually go down to the beach though and walk around, so that was fun. I also got to wander around the campus a bit, and I'm really excited for my sister and know she's going to do great at school :)
Other than that, I've just been gearing up for school again. I've been able to catch up with a couple friends over the past couple of weeks, and I'm hoping to get together with a couple more before I move back in next weekend. Summer's been good to me, and I'm hoping the semester will be as well.
Until next time.
