So, I've managed to make it 5 weeks into the semester without completely overexerting myself. And it's been good, but also kind of weird? I don't really know how to explain it. I guess I got pretty used to my normal last semester and there were definite times that I got to see basically all of my friends. At this point, I'm still trying to figure out what I want my normal to be this semester and coming to terms with the fact that I definitely won't have much time to see some of my friends because we are all incredibly busy. Which is understandable, because most of us are juniors and seniors, but it's still not fun. Plus, I'm hardly ever in my room and the amount of time I have spent with Kayla has decreased drastically, which is definitely not something I was hoping for.
My classes have been okay so far. The only one I really hate so far is Operating Systems, and that's mostly because my teacher might just be the most annoying professor ever. He just rambles about information that's not on his slides and when he does talk about the slides it's basically word for word what is on them. Plus, I feel like I'm way out of my depth in that class. I know I'm not, but some of the people in the class ask questions that are super technical and that's never been my strong point in CS. Doesn't help that I'm one of 4 girls in a 40 person class. Anyway, rant over. I'm actually really enjoying most of my other classes. Sure, topology lectures are super dull, but I can tune them out and I do enjoy the subject material. Algebra is really really interesting and Dr. Pardue is definitely my favorite math teacher I've had so far. Probability Theory is also a really enjoyable class because I haven't taken a computational math class in ages. My seminar on Decision Making is super interesting and also Prof. Park is great. So yeah, 4/5 classes are tolerable, so that's good.
TAing has been a great as it's ever been. Being head TA and taking on more responsibilities was a little daunting at first, but I've really come to enjoy it! It's been so fun being one of the older TAs and watching the new TAs learn the ropes. Days where I can spend my afternoon in ITE are still my favorite days. I've really enjoyed teaching a GRS section this semester because I get to see my students twice a week and get to know them a lot better. It's kind of stressful having to prep for the extra hour, but I think that it's worth it in the end!
Honestly, life has been good. I feel like not much has happened. I mostly just wanted to get a post up about the beginning of the semester before next week, because I'm going to Orlando for the Grace Hopper Conference and I'm sure I'll have a lot to see about that.
Until next time.
